Vitamix Blender

Vitamix Blender

The Vitamix is a powerful home blender of industrial strength, especially designed to create fresh, flavorful dishes from whole-food ingredients. These self-cleaning machines allow you to chop, blend, cream, purée, and more—through every course of every meal—with a single appliance. With commercial quality and unsurpassed engineering, you can buy a Vitamix once and have it for life. Mine is nearly 20 years old and it still works like a dream!

The Vitamix can:

  • Puree anything into a smooth sauce, pudding or smoothie, including ice, nuts, grains, greens and hard veggies, like carrots.
  • Make soups from raw vegetables in minutes by pureeing them and heating them by friction.
  • Make flour from whole nuts or whole grains.

How to use it

Always add your liquids to the blender first, then any soft ingredients, and your firmest ones last, including ice. Snugly attach the lid or hold it in place with your hand and turn it on at the lowest setting. Gradually increase the speed to the setting you need, flipping the “turbo-boost” switch for maximum pureeing power.

To make flour from a grain, such as rolled oats or soaked and dried wheat berries, add about a cup of grain at a time and flip to high speed immediately. The grinding will happen quite quickly. Don’t over-process or you will get grain “butter”.

  • Chop fruits and veggies coarsely before blending to assist pureeing or liquefying.
  • Remove indigestible peels before blending, but digestible peels can be left intact.
  • Remove pits and any pits and obvious, indigestible seeds, but the blender will liquefy smaller ones left behind, such as apple or lemon. The exception is the avocado pit, which can be thrown right in with the flesh, if desired.
  • Strip the leafy parts from the stems of hardier greens. Reserve the stems for another use and puree the leafy sections.
  • Use the manufacturers wand to submerge stubborn materials that float to the surface - never anything else, like a wooden spoon. The Vitamix wand, unlike any other implement, is designed so that the lid barrier prevents contact with the blades.
  • There's no need to disassemble this blender for cleaning - simply fill it about one third full of hot water, add a few drops of dish soap, and blend for about 30 seconds with the lid tightly secure to wash. Rinse thoroughly and drain or dry.
